Paghimutad

Negros Island People's Alternative Media

About Us

Kamatuoran Ipalapnag: The Negrosanons deserve news that is truthful more than just neutral.

Our Mission

Paghimutad is committed to amplifying the voices of the marginalized and shedding light on the struggles of the Negrosanon masses. As a grassroots-based, non-profit media outlet, our mission is to deliver fearless, in-depth journalism that challenges mainstream narratives and documents the ongoing fight for land, justice, and human rights in Negros Island, Philippines. Through multimedia reporting and grassroots storytelling, we aim to inform, inspire, and engage our community and beyond, ensuring that the issues faced by farmers and marginalized communities are heard.

Our History

Paghimutad was born out of the brutal events of March 30, 2019, when the Synchronized Enhanced Military–Police Operation (SEMPO), or Oplan Sauron 2, claimed the lives of 14 peasant leaders in Canlaon City, Manjuyod, and Sta. Catalina. This massacre, carried out under the Duterte administration’s Memorandum Order No. 32, highlighted the deepening state violence against farmers and other vulnerable communities. In response to this, Paghimutad emerged as an alternative media outlet to document these human rights abuses, challenge state narratives, and chronicle the ongoing struggle for justice and land reform in Negros Island.

Who Are We

Paghimutad is a dedicated collective of journalists, storytellers, and advocates based in Negros Island, Philippines. Our team is driven by a shared belief in the power of information to drive social change. With unwavering focus on the lived realities of the Negrosanon people, we aim to empower local communities by providing them with a platform to share their stories.
