Former ABS-CBN Employee Dies of Heart Attack When Told Of Company Retrenchment

July 23, 2020 – A production manager of shuttered broadcast network ABS-CBN died of a heart attack after being told she would be losing her job.

Earlier, the network announced it would be forced to drastically cut its workforce after the House legislative franchises committee voted to reject a new franchise for it to continue oeprating.

Mavic Oducayen, a producer for various productions of the network, collapsed after being told she would be retrenched. She was rushed to the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City where she suffered a cardiac arrest.

A colleague wrote in an obituary, “Rest in peace ang gusto kong sabihin, pero kilalang-kilala kita. Hinding-hindi ka mapapayapa hanggang hindi uli umeere ang ABS-CBN mong mahal.”
