GOES Socialist also questioned why the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) is also silent with the unresolved issues of Energy Development Corporation, a private corporation owned by the Lopez family, in Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park (MKNP). The company is said to have destroyed the forest in the area for the sake of 49W energy that failed to deliver power to Negrense consumers.
Dredging and Black Sand Mining Project in EB Magalona
Environmentalists have also condemned the black sand mining project, guised as a dredging project, was criticized as a clear violation of the local fisheries ordinance and a threat towards shoreline resources.
The issuance of Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) in favor to TERRADEV Corporation to dredge in the 3 major river systems of EB Magalona was also condemned as insult to injury. GOES Socialists had asked DENR-EMB Region VI to further clarify the issuance of ECC, together with the affected communities and NGOs during the public hearing. DENR-EMB reportedly has not presented any scientific studies nor followed the correct procedure in obtaining ECC, and only have leaned more in giving advantageous benefits to the TERRADEV corporation.
In addition to the irregularities was that the public hearing was also reportedly held inside the Session Hall of the Municipality of EB Magalona, far from the affected communities.
