Elements from the 62nd Infantry Battalion Philippine Army (IB-PA) opened fire on the hut where Christina Jacolbe and her 16 year-old daughter Everly Kee Jacolbe, alongside Rodan Montero, were resting in Sitio Banderahan, Brgy. Trinidad, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental early today.
Residents disproved the claims of the military that a 10-minute firefight transpired.
The AFP planted firearms on the victims to fabricate an encounter and stole money and other belongings in their house.
In a statement, the Leonardo Panaligan Command – New People’s Army (LPC-NPA) also denied an encounter transpired between the rebels and the army, and they denounced what happened as murder.
Christina Jacolbe is a former daycare worker who was previously red-tagged by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a statement, Kabataan Para sa Karapatan, a human rights group in Negros Oriental, denounced the murder and demands justice for the victims.
“These constant attacks on the communities in the countryside, which continue to happen in Guihulngan City, Canlaon City, Vallehermoso, and Moises Padilla, instill fear into the masses especially with the continuing existence of the National Task Force to End Local Communist and Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and the Marcos Administration,” the statement says.
