A farm worker in Himamaylan City was reportedly beaten by soldiers of the 94th Infantry Battalion, leaving him severely injured, according to the human rights group September 21 Movement.
The victim, identified as Alberto Piaduche, was traveling with his brother on a motorcycle on March 9, 2025, around 7 p.m. when they were intercepted near the 542nd Engineer Construction Battalion, Philippine Armyheadquarters in Sitio Tuyuman, Barangay Caradio-an, Himamaylan City.
Armed men, identified as members of the 94th IB, allegedly forced them into a pickup truck and brought them inside the military compound.
Piaduche was reportedly coerced to admit that he was a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) and that armed rebels visited their home.
When he denied the accusations, soldiers allegedly covered his head with plastic and stomped on him, causing severe pain and bleeding in his eyes.
His brother was made to wait at the back of the pickup truck while Piaduche was being beaten inside the compound.
The two were released at midnight but were allegedly warned not to report the incident or their family would be killed.
Their home was also ransacked, and their belongings were searched.
Piaduche sought medical attention, and a doctor recommended a CT scan due to the severity of his injuries.
His family fears for their safety, citing threats from the 94th IB.
They have decided to file a police report and are calling on the local government to investigate the incident and help them seek justice.
“The military has long subjected civilians to their brutality. This shows their lack of mercy and their role as executioners, just to cover up their failures in addressing insurgency. They often accuse civilians of being NPA to justify their actions,” September 21 Movement said in a statement in Hiligaynon.
