In the past two days, the city of Bacolod has seen the largest increase of COVID-19 coronavirus cases, with 26 new cases reported by the City Health Office last Friday and 27 new cases reported last Saturday respectively. As of July 26, 2020, the city has a total of 148 confirmed cases, with 57 recoveries, 87 active cases, and 4 deaths.

Due to the significant increase of local transmission in the city, Bacolod doctors have announced they are appealing to President Rodrigo Duterte and the National Interagency taskforce for at least a 2 week declaration of Enhanced Community Quarantine to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Old City Hall Lockdown

Of the 27 new cases reported last Saturday, it is reported that 19 of these were close contacts of a GSO employee, identified as patient number 89 of the city. Due to the significant amount of people exposed to the employee assigned at the Old City Hall located in Downtown Bacolod, the mayor has decided to place the entire building and premises under lockdown.

Starting July 27, 2020, the entire area will be inaccessible for disinfection of the building and will halt operations as the city conducts contract tracing to avoid the spread of the disease.

The planned State of the Nation protest to be held by progressive groups is currently unsure if it will push through due to these recent developments.
